Levi Warren Sheffler 1841-1929
Levi was born in Westmoreland County PA and served in the 15th PA Cavalry in the Civil War.
He married Maria Culbertson after the war and moved to Michigan where they had 3 children: Ella, then William, who died around his first year, and Jessie Mae. Maria herself died either during or shortly after the birth of Jessie Mae.
Levi remarried a few years later to Susan Cordelia Delye (sometimes spelled DeLisle - actually originated from Deloeil).
They had five more children in all.
About 1907 after 40 years in Michigan the Shefflers travelled by train to Oregon where after a couple of years they moved to a plot of land next to a rutted trail that is today called Sheffler Road in Lane County Oregon, just a little west of Eugene.
